This is a good example of the amount of detail we would expect from a commercial pathway quote:
We wish to obtain quotations for the installation of a new pathway. Below are the specification that will be required and you are asked to provide two quotes, one for a 2m wide path and one for a 1 ½ m wide path.

SPECIFICATION FOR NEW PATHWAY
Total approximate area of new path – 350m x 2m
1. To set out line and levels of proposed footpath
2. To excavate area up to 200mm depth of proposed footpath as required and stockpile on site
3. To supply and fix permanent 44mm x 100mm (approx.) tanalised timber edgings securely pegged either side (and end) of footpath. Timbers half cut through to bend on curves as necessary
4. To supply and lay geobabric membrane on exposed surface
5. To supply and lay granular sub-base material, nominal depth of 200mm fully compacted
6. To spray compacted stone base with bitumen emulsion tack coat and thereon supply and lay granite fine chippings or gravel chippings gently rolled
7. To spread topsoil either side to new footpath as required to grade adjacent ground
8. To clear and tidy site and remove all surplus materials.
All excavated material to remain on site (no need for removal of excavated soil)
