Bespoke Driveway Tarmac Paving in Accrington
Take a moment to think about how much stress the average driveway is required to endure on a regular basis. Not only will these surfaces need to stand up to the wear and tear associated with vehicles, but they need to be able to withstand the elements. These are some of the very same reasons why driveways are replaced on occasion. As you might have already guessed, our experts are here to help. Let’s examine how the team at Meadow Drives and Patios addressed a recent project in Accrington. You can therefore know what to expect during an initial consultation.
A Bit Worse for Wear
This particular driveway had become damaged over time, so a new surface was in order. As it also extended to a nearby front overhang, we needed to determine the best approach as well as what types of materials would offer the highest return-on-investment.
The first step involved speaking with the Accrington client. We feel that this is arguably the most important stage, as it enables us to better understand what they desire as well as how we can satisfy such needs. After this initial consultation, it was decided that an asphalt surface was the most appropriate. What factors influenced this decision?
The Benefits of Asphalt
There are several reasons why asphalt is one of our most popular surfacing materials. Not only is this substance cost-effective in terms of labour, but the oils contained within its formulation help to prevent common issues such as pooling water and subsoil erosion. Furthermore, asphalt is somewhat flexible; enabling it to expand and contract in accordance with temperature and humidity fluctuations. This helps to eliminate cracking; one of the main reasons why driveway surfaces will need to be replaced. On a final note, asphalt provides a visually uniform appearance and it can be used to compliment other elements found throughout a property.
The Replacement Process
As the existing surface was severely damaged, it needed to be removed in order to provide a firm foundation for the subsequent layer of asphalt. Our team utilised a combination of physical labour and mechanical methods (a small excavator) to peel away the older materials. It was then possible to level and grade the surface. Without this type of preparation, even a new coating would quickly become loose. An ounce of preparation certainly goes a long way!
Finishing Touches
Meadow Drives and Patios strives to provide every property with an aesthetic edge that is not possible when dealing with cookie-cutter firms. In this case, we opted for block paving stones that were placed around the periphery of the driveway and the borders of the walls of the home. This method involves far more than visual appeal. The addition of a block border will help to ensure that weeds do not penetrate the asphalt surface from beneath. Such stones can likewise allow water to efficiently drain away from the driveway during periods of heavy rain.
Practical, Attractive and Economical
This recent project clearly illustrates why customers throughout Accrington and the surrounding areas continue to work with the team at Meadow Drives and Patios. Of course, we are more than capable of providing additional services. Some of these include (but are not limited to):

Fencing
Brickwork
Disabled access points
