Before and After

Before and After

  • Before: The original driveway didn’t complement the property, it was discoloured and uneven.
  • After: The new driveway is the perfect addition to the property, the contrasting materials creates a visually striking.

Project Steps

  1. Excavation and Groundwork
    • We began by marking the entire driveway area, making sure we followed the agreed layout and shape. The old surface was fully excavated to the required depth using heavy duty machinery, then a geotextile membrane to prevent weed growth and stabilise the ground. A high-quality MOT Type 1 hardcore sub-base was laid in layers, each one compacted with a vibrating roller to create a solid and level foundation capable of handling heavy vehicle traffic.
  2. Edging Installation
    • Once the sub-base was laid, we moved to installing the granite edging. These premium silver-grey granite setts were selected to contrast beautifully with the dark tarmac. Each sett was hand laid and set in concrete to ensure a strong, permanent bond. Careful attention was paid to the curves and straight edges, helping define the shape of the driveway and enhancing the overall appearance.
  3. Drainage and Thresholds:
    • With a large surface area like this, proper drainage is crucial. An ACO-style linear drainage channel were installed at the driveway entrance to ensure surface water is captured and efficiently directed away from the property. We also integrated recessed manhole covers and adjusted the levels around the threshold to ensure a flush finish that didn’t interrupt the sleek flow of the drive.
  4. Tarmac Application
    • We applied a binding layer of tarmac, following by a durable top coat of stone mastic asphalt for its strength and clean appearance. The tarmac was laid hot and smoothed out by hand around the edges and features. It was then machine rolled across the full surface to achieve even compaction, resulting in a strong, long-lasting surface with minimal risk of future sinking or cracking.
  5. Finishing Touches
    • With the tarmac set and cooling, we made final checks to all the joints, edges and drainage systems. Any excess materials and debris were removed, and the site was swept and hosed down to leave a pristine finish. The new driveway was left neat, clean and ready for immediate use, a perfect blend of form and function.

Client Feedback

The clients were thrilled with the end result, the loved the contrast of the tarmac and granite edging and how it perfectly complemented their lovely home.

Conclusion

The finished driveway has dramatically improved the kerb appeal of this stunning home. The striking contrast between the dark tarmac and the bright granite edging gives the property a polished, high-quality look. Only premium materials were used so it not only looks fantastic but is built to last for years to come.
